SASH BALANCES

The Caldwell range of spiral sash balances are designed for use in both conventional vertical sliding windows and vertical sliding windows with a tilt-in-facility, together with serving hatches and counter screens.

Caldwell spiral balances are in use throughout the world in PVC-U, aluminium and timber windows. They are designed to counter balance a sash, holding it in any position. Whilst balances are not designed as a mechanical opening device, they do give a degree of assistance when operating the window.

Torso & Ultralift balances are pre-tensioned sash balances. Spirex, Spiralift, Alumatilt Regular & Alumatilt Heavy Duty are all non pre-tensioned sash balances.

For sash weights of 3kg to 50kg, pre-tensioned Torso double sprung balances are specified for their very high reliability and excellent track record. Torso sash balances provide torque-free lift for over 50,000 cycles (equivalent to over 100 years in normal use). Torso balances, which have 19mm PVC tubes, can be specified for traditional vertical sliding sash windows and tilt-in windows to offer 70% - 75% mechanical advantage.

With sash weights beyond 18kg a bigger, more powerful, balance is required. Ultralift pre-tensioned balances are available for vertically sliding sashes weighing 6kg to 27kg. To provide the extra lift, Ultralift balances are double sprung, resulting in a 70% - 75% mechanical advantage. Ultralift balances that have 17mm diameter PVC tubes, can be specified for traditional vertical sliding sash windows and tilt-in windows.

SPIREX
Principally specified for timber windows or secondary glazing screens, Spirex balances are suitable for sash weights between 1kg and 13.5kg and sash heights of 200mm to 1200mm. Spirex balances are sprung in a 14mm diameter aluminium tube and offer approximately a 25% mechanical advantage.

SPIRALIFT Spiralift balances have all the attributes and benefits of Spirex but can be used on  windows with a sash weight of up to 18kg.

ALUMATILT
Similar to Spirex balances, Alumatilt balances have different fittings so that they can be used on tilting windows. Alumatilt Heavy Duty balances are the tilting equivalent of Spiralift.
